The Big Mistake
Well, I couldn't stay on the sidelines any longer. The debacle in Iraq
continues So I've decided to offer my own tidbits of opinion to this crazy venture. I can't begin to imagine how anyone could think we are any safer now then before we attacked Iraq. The people of Iraq are better off without Saddam. However, this was never our primary goal. Let's face it. Controlling the nation with the second largest oil supply was the Bush administration's
main objective. Bush himself, probably believed he could start the
spread of democracy throughout the middleast. This, of course, is what he was told by the people around him. Especially Dick Chaney.
They were not so naive. Ultimately Iraq will be out of our control. If Iraq holds together long enough to have an open election, whomever is elected will probably run on an anti-American
platform. More then likely we will see a fundamentalist regime
come to power. This will not bode well for countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. We will continue to loose soldiers and civilian contractors for as long as we are in Iraq. Like Vietnam, they will most likely will have died for nothing. From the lack of postwar planning to the atrocities at Abu Graib this has been one screw up after another. Unfortunately, most Americans can't tear themselves away from Survivor or the Apprentice long enough to really know what's going on. Oh, to be comfortably numb.
